Malaysia merupakan antara negara yang kaya dengan peninggalan bangunan bersejarah. Bangunan bersejarah adalah antara sebahagian daripada khazanah warisan negara yang wajar dipulihara dari masa ke semasa untuk tatapan generasi akan datang. Dengan arus pembangunan negara yang semakin pesat kini, kebanyakan daripada bangunan bersejarah ini ada yang telah dipulihara dengan baik dan ada yang telah musnah ditelan arus pembangunan. Antara isu-isu yang sedang dialami oleh bangunan bersejarah ini ialah seperti kurangnya usaha masyarakat umum dalam usaha untuk memulihara bangunan bersejarah, bangunan bersejarah tidak diselenggara dan dupilihara dengan baik,bangunan eggrsejarah diroboh untuyk tujuan pembangunan, pendekatan kerja pemuliharaan dan pengubahsuaian yang tidak mengikut prinsip asas pemuliharaan, dan masalah kerosakan yang melanda kebanyakan bangunan bersejarah itu sendiri disebabkan oleh faktor usia dan keusangan.


Sehubungan dengan itu, buku ini dihasilkan dengan tujuan untuk merungkai segala persoalan dan permasalahan yang berkaitan dengan kerosakan yang sering berlaku pada bangunan bersejarah dan seterusnya menerangkan secara teknikal tentang bagaimana untuk memulihara bangunan bersejarah. Kandungan buku ini telah disusun dengan teliti bagi memudahkan para pembaca memahami apa itu bangunan bersejarah, kaedah pemeriksaan kerosakan pada banunan bersejarah, punca dan agen kerosakan serta jenis-jenis kerosakan bangunan yang sering berlaku ke atas kebanyakan bangunan bersejarah di Malaysia. Seterusnya buku ini juga akan menerangkan secara terperinci tentang penyataan kaedah bagaimana untuk memulihara bangunan bersejarah ini dengan menggunakan teknik dan kaedah yang betul dan terbukti berkesan. Penyataan kaedah pemuliharaan yang betul adalah amat penting dan perlu dijadikan sebagai rujukan oleh semua pihak yang terlibat secara langsung atau tidak langsung dalam industri pemuliharaan bangunan bersejarah kerana sekiranya kaedah pemuliharaan itu dilakukan dengan cara yang salah, maka dikhuatiri bukan sahaja kerosakan bangunan itu tidak dapat dibaiki dengan baik malah ia turut akan menjejaskan keaslian reka bentuk, seni bina dan bahan binaan serta nilai sejarah yang terdapat pada bangunan bersejarah berkenaan.


Akhir kata, sejuta penghargaan diberikan kepada semua pihak yang telah memberikan sokongan baik secara langsung atau tidak langsung sehingga terhasilnya buku ini. Adalah diharapkan agar buku ini dapat dijadikan ebagai rujukan dan meberi manfaat kepada semua pihak yang berkecimpung dalam industri pemuliharaan bangunan bersejarah serta dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu sumber rujukan utama kepada mahasiswa universiti dalah usaha untuk menimba ilmu pengetahuan yang tak terbatas ini.
